This privacy policy covers both the website mapcode.com as well as the mobile phone app for iOS and Android called Mapcode Finder.

The website mapcode.com uses cookies. A cookie is a simple, small file that is transferred to your computer together with the rest of website pages. It gets stored on your computer by your web browser.

We use cookies to improve the user experience of this website and of our services. You can disable the use of cookies in your browser, but this may affect the user experience on our website.

With your permission we store "tracking cookies" on your computer. These are used to see which pages are relevant to our visitors. We never store any names, addresses or e-mail addresses with these cookies.

We do not share or provide any of this information to third parties and we do not use this information in any commercial way.

You have the legal right to obtain or request deletion of any personal information we store. To do so, simply use the contact form on our website. If you submit a request, you will need to identify yourself adequately and we may need to contact you before we actually provide the information. If the information is linked to a cookie, we request you to send a copy of the cookie as well.

If you just want to remove any cookies from our website, you can do so yourself on your computer. Please visit the help pages of your browser on how to do so.

User data

If you use our online services to encode or decode mapcodes (including using the interactive map on mapcode.com and using the mobile phone app Mapcode Finder), the coordinates and mapcodes that were being used the service calls will be collected and stored.

 

Usage of the data

This information is used to identify issues with the encoding/decoding service and to improve our services, based on typical usage data. It is not shared with any other parties and it is not being used in any commercial way.

Encryption and access

During data transfer, the information is transferred encrypted using SSL. The stored data is protected by regular access rights management to its storage location. Access to this location is only allowed for data analysts from the Mapcode Foundation. The data is retained for a period of 12 months.

Avoiding data collection

Should you wish to not share any such data through the use of our services, then we recommend you to use the SDK libraries for development languages at posted at Github (see here), or host and run the encode/decode web service yourself. These development SDKs do not collect or store online any location or mapcode data.
